Circular Economy - Sustainable design inspired by Nature
Circular Economy: Nothing is lost, everything is transformed.
The circular economy has become an increasingly important aspect of many industries, including furniture manufacturering by increasing the life cycle of materials. Recycling in the furniture industry is as important by reducing waste, reducing impact on the environment and the creation of new products from existing materials. By repurposing wood and other materials that might end up in landfills the industry can reduce their carbon footprint, conserve natural resources and create a more sustainable future.
There are several designers and furniture manufacturers producing furniture from recycled material said Dean Dicks, creative director of Coney Collective: since 2008 we have also produced recycled products but maybe the difference is that we entrust our designs to be guided by the materials, the history and their specific properties. The material defines the design. We also follow the the Japanese philosphy of wabi-sabi where we embrace the imperfections and most times source materials that have specific texture, grain, density, colour and unique characterics. We are prepared to leave our comfort zone, try out something new, and sometimes fail with it for the sake of our work. We see errors as an essential part of the creative process. So in a nutshell we design and manufacture unique pieces of functional furniture, sometimes functional art defined by the material, that is both sustainable and aesthetically pleasing. We always encourage our clients not to clutter areas but to have one or two unique pieces that liven up an entire space.
